报告题目:Radar Investigations of the Moon: A Review and Progress

报告摘要:
Radar is a powerful tool in lunar exploration due to its penetration ability in the desiccated lunar regolith, and such observations give information that is complementary to data obtained in the visible, infrared, and thermal infrared regimes. Recently, with a renewed interest in lunar exploration, a variety of radar instruments, with different radar techniques, frequencies and polarizations, have been used to investigate the lunar surface and subsurface properties. In this talk, first I am going to give a review for radar observations of the Moon, including the Earth-based radar, sounding radar, synthetic aperture radar, and ground penetrating radar. Then I will resent some recent progress for radar investigation of the Moon, including water ice deposits detection over the lunar polar regions, characteristic and formation mechanism of radar dark halo craters, and regolith stratigraphic structure over the Chang’E-3 landing site. The modeling and inversion approaches in this talk can be applied also to radar investigation of the Mercury, Mars, and other planets in the solar system.
