报告题目:Studying Binary Stars Using Remotely Operated Telescopes

报告摘要:
Remotely operated astronomical telescopes offer huge advantages over conventional telescopes that require a user to be on site to use a telescope, especially for universities with limited budget in a telescope consortium: Saving travel cost, convenience and comfort in operating the telescopes, easy access for students, easy collaboration with other astronomers, just to name a few.
In this talk, we will first introduce the four telescopes that we have access to: SARA Kitt Peak, SARA CTIO (Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory) and SARA ORM (Observatorio del Roque de los Muchacchos), and our own Holcomb Observatory Telescope. We will then present our research for several binary star systems. These telescopes are well suited for photometric studies of binary stars: they provide sufficient light gathering power with sufficient time resolution and reliable availability.
