 CHESs Major Scientific Goals

 

The CHES mission will 100 nearby sun like stars in the solar system (first survey) , explore habitable terrestrial planets or super Earths (second survey), and survey a census of the number, true mass, and three-dimensional orbits of planets in neighboring systems (third survey). It is expected that CHES will discover dozens of habitable belt planets and "super Earths", and discover the true "Earth 2.0". The CHES will solve the following key scientific questions: what are the habitable belt terrestrial planetary systems around the neighboring solar system, what are the orbital characteristics of terrestrial planets, what are the general laws of their formation, evolution, and habitability, and what are the internal structures and distribution characteristics of planets.

  

Key scientific objectives

1. Search for habitable terrestrial planets:

Search for terrestrial planets located in the habitable zone in the vicinity of the solar system (within 10 pcs), with the hope of being the first to discover terrestrial planets in the habitable zone of neighboring solar stars internationally.

2. Census of Nearby Planets in the Solar System:

Census of exoplanet systems with orbital periods of 30 days to 10 years and greater than 1 Earth mass within 10 PCs, providing comprehensive physical and orbital parameters for planets for the first time. Establish a comprehensive database of neighboring exoplanets.
